What the app is
Desert Fathers is a reading and listening practice: a library of the Desert Fathers and their heirs, and a year of daily audio. Reading the library is free. Listening — the daily audio and the narrated books — requires a subscription.
Your account
You need an account to use the app, because your practice follows you between devices and your subscription is attached to it. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account. One person, one account.
You can delete your account at any time from You → Account → Delete account. Deleting the account erases your practice permanently and cannot be undone.
The subscription
- It renews automatically. Payment is charged to your Apple or Google account at confirmation of purchase, and again at the start of each new period at the same price, unless you cancel.
- Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends, or the next period is charged. Cancel in your device’s subscription settings — we cannot cancel it for you, and deleting the app does not cancel it.
- A free trial, when offered, applies once. If you cancel before it ends, you are not charged. Any unused part of a trial is forfeited when you subscribe.
- Refunds are handled by the store, not by us. Apple and Google set their own refund rules, and we have no power to reverse a charge.
- Prices can change. If a price changes, the store asks for your consent before charging the new one, and you may cancel instead.
Cancelling ends the renewal, not the period you already paid for: you keep listening until the end of it.
The texts and the recordings
Every translation in the library is in the public domain, and every translator has been checked by name and by date of death — not assumed. Those texts belong to no one and you may quote them freely.
The recordings, the daily writings, the design and the app itself are ours. You may listen to them for yourself, on your devices, for as long as your subscription lasts. You may not download, copy, republish, broadcast or resell them, and you may not share your account so that others can listen through it.
What the app is not
Desert Fathers is a work of philosophy and literature. It is not medical, psychological or financial advice, and nothing in it is a substitute for a professional. If you are unwell or in crisis, please speak to someone qualified.
Availability
We work to keep the app running, but we cannot promise it will never be unavailable. Audio is streamed and needs a connection; the library can be read without one. To the extent the law allows, the app is provided as it is, and our liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
